another death

The weather is very nice this evening so I took Madeline for a walk. We had just stepped onto the sidewalk in front of our house and I heard a loud thump and a horrid scream. I saw our neighbor's white jeep stop in the road, turn of her lights and jump our of her car. I thought she hit a child because the scream was so piercing. She ran over a cat that belonged to another neighbor of ours.
I watched the squished cat squirm and try to get off of the road but it was pressed into the brick. Its legs and tail were up in the air and its head was moving around. The entire time it was crying in agony. It died quickly but it was seemed like such a long time.

When we came back from our walk I could see the pool of blood in the middle of the street shining in the light of the street lamp.

I write about this because it is causing me minor anxiety attacks. I often have real and irrational fears regarding horrible things happening to Madeline. Currently I can't stop imagining her being hit by a car and it is making me sick to my stomach. My head is spinning. I think I will have Madeline sleep next to me tonight. Just to make sure she stays safe.

Oh you poor thing. I did the same thing not to long ago and it made me sick to my stomach as well. I believe it's becuase we love our children so much that we fear anything that could possibly harm them and it gets into our heads and freaks us out. Kick out the bad thoughts and replace them with everything you love about your little girl. Otherwise you'll become the mom on the movie "Carrie" where you'll be telling your girls to cover up their dirty pillows and that everyone is a sinner. If I remember correctly the ending to that movie wasn't very positive.
