Five more years of cargo shorts

Brian and I went shopping for shorts for him to take to Vegas. We were out shopping the day before he had to leave because he just had realized that it was going to be very hot there and he didn't have any shorts that did not have a hole in the crotch. He couldn't sport those things while out with professional people at the conference.

So, we pack up the girls, get Madeline some chicken nuggets and french fries, and head to the Waterfront.

Brian wants to go to American Eagle Outfitters because the last pair of shorts he bought (five years ago) was from that store. We head in. I am dressed in mesh type black capri pants that would be more for lounging around the house (they have an elastic waste) and a purple tie dyed shirt. I am pushing Lillian in her massive pink stroller and Madeline is right beside me with her chicken nuggets and french fries in her hand. I look like a mom that just had a baby recently. I ooze momness, not youngness.

There is semi loud popular music playing in the store and everyone looks like they are 18 years old. A girl that works there eyes up Madeline's food and watches her walk around the store. I stare back at her, challenging her with my eyes to say something about the food, because I'd rather deal with her than listen to Madeline cry about having to put down her french fries.

Brian looks around and only sees funky shorts in bright colors with patterns and exclaims, "Don't they have any normal cargo shorts!".

Eventually we find them (the normal cargo shorts) and I leave him to find his size and try them on. I continue to walk around the store with the girls. "I used to wear clothes from this store" I thought to myself as I stared at the tank tops that are obviously made for stick women without any breasts. I am not even sure Madeline could squeeze into one of them. This store was not the right place to be six weeks after giving birth because it just depressed me that I will not get back to my normal weight for quite a while yet, and I may never fit into American Eagle sizes ever again!

I can hear someone trying to get around me, the stroller and Madeline (we are taking up the whole aisle) and then I see a young woman watching us as if we don't belong in there, and we don't, so I get the girls and sit outside on a bench to wait for Brian.

When Brian comes outside I tell him that we are too old to shop in that store. He says, "Yeah, maybe. But hopefully these shorts will last me another five years."

You can't be too big for AE, although I can concur with the whole "feeling too old" part. I just started being able to buy clothes there again, and you and I were about the same size before I put on all of my weight.

Shame on the stupid teenage twits who made you feel out of place there.
